Each row and column of the grid has a set of numbers that tell you how many consecutive filled cells appear in that line, and in what order. For example, the clue "3 1 2" means the row contains a group of 3 filled cells, then at least one empty cell, then 1 filled cell, then at least one empty cell, then 2 filled cells. Using these clues for every row and column, you deduce which cells to fill and which to leave empty.
